Best of Lake Garda (bestoflakegarda.com) is an independent travel guide run by Alex Burgoyne. This page explains what personal data the site collects, why, and what your rights are. We have tried to keep it short and honest: we collect very little, and we do not sell or trade any of it.
Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is Alex Burgoyne, publisher of Best of Lake Garda. You can reach us through the contact page. We answer every message about privacy ourselves, usually within a few days.
What we collect, and why
Server logs
Like every website, our hosting provider records basic technical information when you load a page: your IP address, browser type, the pages you request and the time of the request. We use these logs to keep the site running, to spot abuse and to fix errors. They are kept for a limited period by the hosting provider and then deleted. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website.
Contact form
If you write to us through the contact form we receive the name, email address and message you type. We use them only to reply to you. Messages are stored in our WordPress site and kept for up to two years so we can follow up on corrections and suggestions, then deleted. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering you, and your consent when you send the form.
Newsletter
If you sign up for our mailing list we store your email address and use it to send you the list you asked for and occasional updates about the lake. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us to remove you at any time. Legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw whenever you like.
Comments
Comments are switched off on this site, so we do not collect commenter data.
Analytics and advertising
We do not currently run analytics software, advertising networks or social-media tracking pixels on this site. If that changes, we will update this page and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent first.
Third parties that may see some data
- Our hosting provider and its content delivery network, which serve the pages to you and keep the server logs described above.
- Google Fonts. The typefaces on this site are loaded from Google’s servers, which means Google receives your IP address when a page loads. Google’s privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.
- Google Maps. Town pages include an embedded map. When it loads, Google may set cookies and collect data about your visit under its own privacy policy.
- Booking and affiliate partners. Some links to hotels, tours and boat hire are affiliate links. If you click one, the partner’s site may set a cookie to record that you arrived from us, and if you book we may receive a commission. We receive aggregate reports from partners, not your personal details. See our editorial policy for how this works.
Some of these companies are based in the United States. Where data is transferred outside the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, it is done under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission.
Cookies
The site itself sets only the technical cookies WordPress needs, and only for people who log in to edit it. Third-party cookies can be set by the embedded Google Maps and by partner sites you click through to. Full details are on our cookie policy page.
Your rights
Under the GDPR and the UK GDPR you can ask us to tell you what personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict how we use it, to give it to you in a portable format, or to stop using it. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. To exercise any of these rights, use the contact page. We will reply within one month.
If you think we have handled your data badly you can complain to a data protection authority: in Italy the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali, in the UK the Information Commissioner’s Office, or the authority in the country where you live.
Children
This site is written for adults planning a trip. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
When we change how the site handles data we update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes, such as adding analytics, will also be announced in the newsletter.
