July is high summer in every sense. If your holiday is about being in and on the water, it is hard to beat. If you want to walk, sightsee or have space, read the caveats first.

Is July a good time to visit Lake Garda?

Yes for a beach and water holiday; less so for anything strenuous. July has the highest average temperature of the year (30.4 °C by day, 18.9 °C at night), the most sunshine at about ten hours a day, and the fewest rainy days of the summer, about five.

The lake reaches roughly 23 °C. The costs are heat in the middle of the day, peak prices and busy roads, boats and beaches. We rate it 4 out of 5.

What's open in July

  • Open Ferries — Full summer timetable (to 4 October in 2026). Popular midday sailings fill, so buy tickets early in the day.
  • Open Gardaland — Peak season. Our Gardaland guide covers how to cut the queues.
  • Open Monte Baldo cable car — Summer season. The top is much cooler than the shore.
  • Open Lidos and beach clubs — Beaches are public all year. Staffed lidos and beach bars are seasonal businesses with no shared calendar; all open, and sunbeds at the popular ones go early.
  • Open Campsites — Peak season. Pitches by the water need booking well ahead.

Where to base yourself in July

In July we go where the air moves. Riva and Torbole get the Ora every afternoon. Tremosine and San Zeno di Montagna sit high above the lake, where nights are cooler than on the shore.

What July feels like

Hot and bright. By late morning the south shore is properly hot and there is little wind to help. Nights of 19 °C are warm enough that air conditioning is worth checking for when you book.

The north is the comfortable end. Garda Trentino describes the Ora as strongest in high summer, and from around noon it turns the top of the lake into a natural fan. That is why windsurfers and sailors gather at Torbole, and why a lakeside table in Riva is pleasant at 2pm when one in the south is not.

What to do, and when in the day

Split the day. Before 11am: towns, walks and the Monte Baldo cable car. Midday: shade, lunch, a siesta. After 3pm: the water. The beaches are at their best now, and so are boat rentals and boat tours.

For children, the LEGOLAND Water Park inside Gardaland comes into its own in this heat.
